Focusing on service, teamwork and making a postivie impact, Sierra Pacific High School’s S Club worked through the year to support both the school and community.
S Club president Alena Fuentez explained that the main goal of the club is “to support our community through participation in events as well as giving back tot the community.” This mission of the club is carried out through a variety of service activities through the school year such as creating letters for the elderly or making women hygiene gifts for unhoused women.
The club helps the community in several ways including community cleanups, funrasing, and assisting other organizations. Members also help take part in larger events such as the Christmas Tree Gala, Shelley Baird’s prom and volunteering at soup kitchens. These experiences give students the opportunity to serve many different groups while learning the importance of involvement within the community.
Vice President David Gonzalez described S Club as a way “to bring people together to positively impact their community while fostering personal growth, social connection, and a shared sense of purpose.” He had emphasized that the club’s work addresses the community needs while also helping our students develop important life skills. S Club participates in a wide range of community service projects. According to Gonzalez, these include environmental cleanups, tutoring, food distribution, elderly care, and event support. These projects not only benefit the community but also help us students gain experience working in teams and taking on responsibility.
Both leaders show why community service is important for us students.
“[It teaches students] to be involved, to open their eyes to different perspectives and teach them that what’s most important is our community,” Fuentez said.
Gonzalez added that service also helps students build up empathy, leadership, and communication skills while also strengthening your college and job applications.
Students also enjoy the friendships such as the memories formed inside the S club. Fuentez shared her favorite moments are club meetings, especially when the room is full and students collaborate to plan future events. Gonzalez recalls his first event in the club at the Festival of Trees where he and his friends shared food, laughter, and inside jokes.
Both of them encourage students to join the S club because it offers students at Sierra Pacific to meet new people, gain leadership experience, and to get involved in meaningful services for the community. As Gonzalez explains, it allows us students to explore interest in building skills while making a difference in our communities. The club continues to show how student involvement can create lasting impact inside and outside of the school.
