The Sierra Pacific track and field team is close to finishing the regular season after competing in last week’s Sanger Metric Classic.
The boys team finished in 24th place out of 25 times while the girls finished in a tie for 17th place out of 21 teams. Buchanan won both the boys and girls titles.
Sierra Paciifc’s best finisher came in the girls triple jump. Senior Apajok Ayuen jumped a personal best 35 feet, 2.5 inches to finish in sixth place.
The Golden Bears will compete at the TCC Last Chance meet April 29 and then the Reedley Invitational (May 1) before the league championship May 8.
BOYS TENNIS
The Golden Bears open play in the Central Section Div. II playoffs this week when it hits the road Thursday, April 30.
Sierra Pacific, the No. 10 seed, will travel to play No. 7 Arroyo Grande. The winner will face No. 2 Clovis, which had a bye, on Tuesday, May. 5. Frontier (Bakersfield) is the top seed in the bracket.
BASEBALL
The Sierra Pacific baseball team has won three straight games and set itself up to have a chance to clinch a share of its league title next week.
Sierra Pacific faces cross-town rival Hanford West this week with four games left in league play. Sierra Pacific is a game ahead of second place Kingsburg.
Sierra Pacific is 15-8 overall after shutting out Washington Union twice last week.
On April 23, the Golden Bears bear the Panthers 4-0 with Bryce Cose going 3-for-4 with an RBI. On the mound, Kaleb Koelewyn earned the win, pitching six innings, allowing just two hits while striking out 12.
SOFTBALL
Sierra Pacific lost to Exeter 10-5 April 24 to fall to 11-14-1 on the season. The Golden Bears scored three runs in the top of the fifth to tie the game, but Exeter answered with five in the bottom half before holding on for the win.
The Golden Bears next game is April 28 at home against Central Valley Christian. Game time is at 4 p.m.
