On May 2, the Hanford Joint Union High School District hosted prom for all three of their high schools. This prom was held at the Hanford Civic Auditorium with its theme being “The Grand Derby”.
The decoration for the theme, The Grand Derby, consisted of colorful lights, white tables with a mixture of flowers for centerpieces, and horse shoes. There were many places to take pictures both in and outside the auditorium, there was also a digital photobooth. There were also food options, consisting of items from Modern Farmhouse and Traveling Tom’s.
This prom was attended by Sierra Pacific, Hanford High, and Hanford West. Prom happens every year, and every year has a different theme that is presented and chosen by some students from all three high schools within the district. Many students love going to prom, they enjoy getting dressed up and they enjoy spending time with their dates or friends. It’s an event most students look forward to every year of high school. Most look forward to running for Prom King, Prom Queen, Prom Prince, and Prom Princess.
Emma Moon, a junior from Sierra Pacific, mentioned that she enjoyed dancing with her friends and date.
“When the song ‘Apple Bottom Jeans’ came out, we rushed to the dancefloor and danced the whole song.” Moon said.
Those who are not running to be in the prom court, voted online for those who were running. Students that ran for prom court made posters to promote their running. In order to win, whoever obtains the most votes are named “Prom King/Queen” and “Prom Prince/Princess.”
Ariadna Figallo, also a junior from Sierra Pacific, shared her favorite part of prom which was reading prom nominations.
“I really enjoyed reading the prom nominations to the crowd, I enjoyed giving them suspense and excitement,” Figallo said.
People often get nominated by activities they are involved with including clubs, sports, and classes such as ASB. As for Prom Queen and Prom King, this year’s winners were Oscar Fernandez and Elijah Withing. This year’s Prom Princess was Bailey Quintero, the Prom Prince was Jeremiah Cortes
Before arriving at prom, many students make plans with their friends or dates. Some friends meet up and get ready together. Most students, before going to prom, go out to take pictures at different spots, after taking pictures some students often get something to eat before arriving at prom. Some students take pictures where prom is being hosted, and others take their pictures at different venues around town.
