Students get to develop leadership skills, discover career paths through these activities. The theme for the convention this year is “emerge”.
Analyssa Gonzalez, who is one of the advisors for FFA at Sierra Pacific, said the keynote speaker on the first night is always good and impactful.
“They always got a really cool message and apparently this year, the new speaker is someone new they’ve never had before,” she said. “He’s like a highly desired speaker around the state so that should be really cool.”
Gonzalez said the career show is cool for students because they get to interact with different people and gain experience in their careers by attending one of the career events.
“There’s always cool stuff for them to take home and I think it’s a good experience,” Gonzalez said. She said, explaining the positive benefits and opportunities students get to have through meeting influential guests and learning more about each other. This event would be a good experience for FFA members ro branch out and make good memories.
Students are supposed to have a B or better in their agriculture or animal science classes and must maintain a B throughout the conference. They also need to have an active SAE project with their AET up to date, attend four FFA activities and have a cultiminative 2.0 GPA in the fall semester, according to the FFA chapter classroom.
Delegates for the state convention have voted for the final six state officers. Every year, six students are elected to represent the State Officers Association.
One of the new officers is Marc Cabeliza who served as the national convention delegate and is from Pioneer Valley high school in Santa Maria. Hannah Hunkle, from Apple Valley High school attended the Sacramento leadership conference and served as a facilitator and a finalist at Job Interview leadership events. The officer teams build connections and create plans on how to engage members in activities and strengthen connection with members.
