Sparkly dresses, bright lights, loud music and smiling faces. School dances always make for a fun night out for students, so why does Sierra Pacific High School only have two of them throughout the year? Most schools have at least three dances every school year. A Homecoming dance is a piece missing from students’ high school experiences.
School dances make for amazing memories for students. Many feel that Formal and Prom are nights that they will never forget, so why not have more of them? Homecoming dances are a common tradition for high schools around the country. A dance at the beginning of the school year is an amazing idea because it can help get students out of their shells and get to know people.
Freshman especially at the beginning of the year can be nervous about making new friends and can have trouble finding a group where they fit in. A dance at the beginning of the year is one way that students can become more social and expand their social circle. They can even meet students from other schools that also attend the dances.
Freshman and sophomore students only get one school dance every year, the Winter Formal. This is because prom is specifically for Juniors and Seniors.
More school dances could do a lot of things for the school. We could increase money for the school. School dances raise money for the school through the amount of tickets that we sell. Each ticket was $40 per person. There were a lot of people that came to Sierra Pacific’s Winter Formal, meaning they earned a good profit.
More school dances also means better behaved students. There are certain requirements that students must meet in order to be able to go to dances. If we have more school dances, there will be more motivation for students to meet these requirements, which would improve many things around the Sierra Pacific campus. These requirements include having good grades, not getting suspended, and not being tardy to classes. Student’s GPAs must be a 2.5 or higher. They also must not get in fights throughout the semester.
School dances are also important for social interaction for students. They are important for students to grow real, genuine connections with other students who they don’t usually see outside of school. It increases social skills and gives students more interactions and rare opportunities to bond with each other outside of usual things like going to classes. Most students feel that school dances allow them to open up and make more friends.
Dances, like Homecomings, are also just exciting ways to make memories for all students. Lots of people rent buses or limos, go out to eat and have the time of their lives while at school dances. Making memories in high school is important because when students look back years from now on their high school experience, they will want happy memories that we can cherish forever. School dances do exactly that. Many students’ school dances are nights that they will never, ever forget.
