“South Park” is an animated television show by the creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone that first aired in 1997 and still continues to now in its 26th season. What “South Park” is most known for and hated on is controversial humor that oftenly addresses the current events or social issues in the world. But what makes the show so enjoyable is how the show centers around young four boys in fourth grade called Stan Marsh, Kyle BroFlovski, Eric Cartman, and Kenny Mccormick. The show is centered around the boys while being in a small mountain town called South Park in Colorado.
As South Park is in its 26th season and so far there have been many different reviews on its current five episodes. South Park probably is, if not one of the best series on television. The newest season just proved my point as well. There should be two important episodes that should be highlighted in the series that make South Park different from other shows.
The two episodes, “Cupid Ye” and “Deep Learning” have to be my favorite episodes in the newest season due to their humor. In “Cupid Ye” we learn about Cartman’s jealousy toward the relationship between Kyle and Tolkien, trying to spread rumors and humiliate Kyle to make him unwelcome to end back with Stan. He says that Kyle runs Hollywood, believing Jews run it for a strange reason. “Deep Learning” Stan and his girlfriend Wendy have a conversation over communication due to Stan ignoring Wendy’s messages and just reacts with a thumbs up. He eventually finds an app called Chat GPT from Clyde, where he responds back with AI responses, but is unable to communicate with Wendy about their conversations.
These were the first and fourth episodes released in the 26th season and definitely were funny and typical of what South Park does. But, what made the episodes so impactful for me is how it goes more into the character’s relationship. In Kyle and Stan’s relationship in the seasons we have seen how close these two have gotten. But, we rarely see any jealousy or issues in their relationships yet which was something I never expected to see during my time watching. Overall the episode isn’t for everyone due to not being the humor many would want to see but it made me feel excited to see more into the two.
In “Deep Learning” we learn more about Stan and Wendy’s relationship as since in the earlier seasons we have seen Stan has a big crush on Wendy even throwing up because of how he likes her. But rarely have we seen Wendy’s side of the relationship. I honestly never cared for the two as I saw they were too toxic for each other and the episode proved my point. I loved how the episode showed communication in relationships is highly important to understand your partner. Stan showed he wasn’t a good boyfriend and depended on AI to fix the relationship and apologize. Overall this episode is loved by people that enjoy the pairing but made fans like me hate the pairing even more.
South Park has been praised by many through the 25 years since its debut. Southpark has been praised for its memorable main characters like Stan who is able to show emotions from being different from others and his ability to try to change. The series’ willingness to be able to produce its profanity and dark humor also has gotten them praised. It won the Emmy for Outstanding Animated show six times between 2006-2012.
Overall, Southpark is an entertaining show that is not for everyone, but is beloved by many for its bold approach to its comedy, viewpoints, and its ability to express important events.
