Peter Pan has been a childhood movie for centuries. There is no doubt that one of the first sources of information about him was written by a writer by the name of J.M. Barrie. Barrie wrote this fairytale in 1904. It was called “Peter and Wendy”.
Many reenactments of this fantasy have been made, such as “Peter Pan” in 1953, “Peter Pan: Return to Neverland” in 2002, “Wendy & Peter Pan” in 2023, and a number of other adaptations of this story have been made including books, shows, on-stage, and movies.
Disney kept this movie close to the original story of Peter Pan considering that it is 2023 and the book was written in 1904. It still had a surreal feeling portrayed through the fantasy landscapes. They didn’t give Wendy and Peter Pan a love story, making them only be friends.
“Wendy & Peter Pan” was directed by David Lowery. Lowery has directed many other movies including “The Green Knight”, “A Ghost Story”, “Pete’s Dragon”, and many other movies, shorts, and TV shows.
There was a lot of creative direction taken by Lowery in this film. His additions included a lost boy with Down syndrome and a black Tinkerbell as well as other characters that made the film more inclusive,which in turn attracted a larger audience. It definitely has a lot of representation which only makes it better.
This shows that Peter doesn’t care about any imperfections or anything different, it shows that everyone should be treated the same with love and care. This movie is not very different from the original book, “Peter Pan and Wendy” written by Barrie. It follows the same storyline and ending.
Although there are some who think that they should have given this original Disney movie a more modern feel, there are others who feel that it is good that they kept it close to the original and did not make a lot of changes to it.
“Peter Pan & Wendy” has been re-imagined with Alexander Molony playing the role of Peter Pan. As far as his most famous role has been concerned, this was definitely it! Even though he has been in many movies and shows before, this was a huge breakthrough role and it sets him up for many more movies in the future.
In spite of being only 16 years old, Molony has been working in the industry for a number of years before he reached that age. The voice of Molony has been heard in many shows and movies, such as “Claude”, “Ra Ra The Noisy Lion”, “The Big Bad Fox”, and Other Tales, among others.
Molony really added a lot to his character through facial expressions then body language. He portrays Peter Pan as a very independent and protective character. He wanted to save Wendy from Captain Hook by doing it himself.
Also starring in the movie as Wendy Darling, was Ever Anderson. Anderson has been in a couple of other movies such as “Resident Evil: The Final Chapter”, “Black Widow”, and now she is in “Peter Pan & Wendy”.
Anderson has a way of portraying her characters through their facial expressions. Her facials really brought out when she was worried, angry, or upset.
Starring as Captain Hook, Jude Law. He is not a newbie to the acting world. Law has been in many movies and shows before including “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore”, “Captain Marvel”, and “Sherlock Holmes”.
Jude Law is also very strong with facial expressions, showing his furrowed brows and upside-down smile to Peter Pan when he is mad at him. His character is definitely very exaggerated making it more entertaining with his screen time.
This movie was very visually appealing to watch; in Neverland there was a dreamlike light and color. Contrasting that, England is very dark and dull.
It was also a very enjoyable storyline, many children and even adults will enjoy this fantasy movie about how a little boy and a little fairy take care of lost children to Neverland. Children everywhere will feel included and loved in this whimsical adventure comedy full of imagination!
