The Future Farmers of America visited the World Agricultural Exposition on Feb. 14, 2024 for an educational experience to learn about the various forms of agriculture.
In the city of Hanford California, there are currently over 1,000 members a part of FFA, which was founded in 1929. It has nine members with three campuses.
FFA focuses on agricultural education, which ranges from animal expositions to field trips where students are taken to learn about leadership and successful opportunities where they can become farmers, veterinarians, and business leaders. These trips are intended to help develop the personal growth and leadership students have, while also teaching them about wildlife like livestock, crops, and cultivation.
Lilly Pimentel, the head of FFA for Sierra Pacific High School said that the attendance for this event is different from the ones from previous field trips. Pimentel says “students are going to be able to get to see a variety of business industries, trends, careers, possible jobs, it’s a huge agriculture expo for students.”
Adisyn Bush, a student at SPHS who is member of FFA and who attended the World Ag Expo found the event useful towards her future career. She says “I wanted to be able to talk to people who work specifically in the livestock industry to gain more knowledge on job opportunities and also what colleges they would recommend for my career path.” She enjoyed talking to other people at the event, while witnessing new technology being made in agriculture.
This event primarily focuses on several opportunities for students to get to see. They were able to see and experience any industry or career that may be a possible choice in their lives.
The World Ag Expo is an agricultural exposition that has been around for years gathering over 100,000 people. It’s intended to be a display where exhibitors demonstrate their farm equipment and any skills they possess. They showcase any topics related to producers, farmers, and agriculture experts. It’s also a place where visitors can visit the booths that will be available like the Golden Bear Coffee booth presented by the Business Finance Academy. It’s open to band and BFA as a way to support their club at SPHS. It assists athletic teams, cheerleaders, and several other clubs that are located at SPHS.
The World Ag Expo is a huge event in Tulare, Ca. There are 1,200 volunteers who put together this event to serve others. This exposition offers seminars, new products, demonstrations, agriculture tours, and wine and cheese tasting. It also offers the opportunity for a scholarship, a car giveaway, and a ceremony hearing.
It provides FFA with several opportunities that they experience each year for the students that qualify to attend. SPHS students went as visitors/viewers. It’s a general event that is open to those interested in attending. Most of the event was located outside for visitors to walk by. Tickets are on sale every year for $20 with children under six getting in for free and parking is also free. The ticket that is purchased is valid for any of the three days that the buyer decides to attend. There are several exhibitors that specialize in different industries like engineering, machinery, corporation, manufacturing, technology, and equipment. It serves as a way to promote business, while also learning about them.
