Video games now are more popular and important than ever before with lots of huge titles being changed and improved like “Minecraft”, with the new update coming out later this year.
Video games can improve physical and mental capabilities like hand to eye coordination because looking at your controller while playing a game makes you severely worse so people who have played games memorize their controller/ laptop layout. This can improve technical work and even typing.
Puzzle solving is also a benefit as a lot of games have puzzles and questions for the player to solve or work out. This makes players more logical and betters their creative thinking.
It seems to also better the players mental health.
according to this article: https://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/boys-playing-video-games-linked-with-lower-depression/
In to an article by goodnewsnetwork.org, children that are less active physically find comfort and are 24 percent less likely to have depression symptoms.
Shooter games or any player versus player games show that the people who play them have better skill to think under pressure and make easier decisions due to the fast pacing and competitive nature of the game.
Simple games like “Angry Birds” give the player a sense of relaxation and calmness just by giving the player a simple objective and a unique way of completing that task.
Some games are built for the purpose of relaxation and taking things easily like “Animal Crossing.” This game has you as a worker that can attend many different events over the course of the year and the player could work off loans, create art, farm, gain money, and just talk with the NPC’s (not playable) and see their stories.
Gaming could also increase confidence in the players who master a game or one of the game’s skills. Gaming also increases focus in players while compared to normal people they have slower reaction time and less focus when it comes to tasks.
Games can also be very good for puzzle solving as games like chess and other more complex games can be adopted into a videogame form. Even games like “Tetris” can be used to develop quick decision making skills.
Some architects use the game “Minecraft” as a way to design and make blueprints for high design buildings, the game is used as a cheap, fast alternative to making small scale buildings. While the architects were making buildings in the game some researchers scanned the architects brain and observed that they were being more efficient making mock designs.
“Minecraft” also released an education edition for teachers to use to educate students. In this mode the teacher has the power to show useful information and limit the space students have. The teachers can create NPC’s to show students around and allow students to build as demonstrations.
