Students at Sierra Pacific have a new way to get snacks and lunch on campus with its new portable cafe food truck.
Aimed at cutting down wait times for those wanting something to eat, students have been surprised to see the vehicle’s sudden appearance on campus at lunch and break.
The truck, which is normally parked on the far side of the quad opposite of the cafeteria, offers the same food students can get elsewhere just in a different location.
Before the arrival of the truck, students had to line up to get snacks at the cafe near the cafeteria. In November, an email was sent out to all staff and students that the school would add the truck with students being able to submit designs for a contest to design the truck.
The competition winners, Elgramor Aquino and Presley Serrano, created the design with the bear mascot on the side, front, and back, and the colors consist of the iconic school colors, green and yellow. It has the phrase “Serving productivity, happiness, and success” to motivate students.
Thoughts on its effectiveness vary.
Jorge Rivas Rivera, a student at Sierra Pacific feels like the truck hasn’t been a good idea with wait times still long.
“Students still have to wait in a large crowd,” Rivas Rivera said while also questioning it’s effectiveness. “Is the food truck hot enough to keep the food warm? What if, to make a food truck useful, we had multiple?”
Junior Kaylee Vallin said she’s felt a difference in wait times.
“I believe the food truck was a great idea and a benefit for the kids who were tired of waiting,” she said.
While students differ on if the truck is working, it does students a choice to where to get food.
