Students still have time to apply for the Local Scholarship program, which helps give studentss a valuable opportunity to receive financial support for postsecondary education.
The deadline is Feb. 27.
Application requirements include three essays, 2-3 letters of recommendation from teachers, counselors, coaches, employers or community members as well as a student resume that highlights activities, work experiences, leadership roles, community service, skills and awards.
The personal statement essay is 5oo words or less and allows students to share their story beyond academics—such as their role in their family, personality, hopes, dreams, or challenges they have overcome. Students should focus on helping the committee truly get to know them.
The community services/activities essay is 250 words or less and is where students describe their school and community involvement, leadership experiences, service projects, clubs, or activities, and how these experiences have helped shape who they are today.
The third essay is a financial need essay of 500 words or less where students explain why they need assistance paying for their postsecondary education. Financial need can take many forms and is not limited to income. These essays are confidential and are reviewed only by scholarship donor committees.
