A new club has recently arrived at Sierra Pacific High School, and it goes by the name of NeuroSphere. This club is perfect for students who have an interest in the study of Neurology or an interest in the medical field in general.
It is the perfect gateway into opportunities for students to learn more about the study of the mind, clear up false information about certain topics that are heavily widespread, as well as a way for students who don’t normally have the opportunity to study neuroscience to have the chance to do things such as volunteering and giving resources for places that give opportunities to members to partake in that they weren’t able to before.
This club is also a perfect addition to Sierra Pacific since there isn’t much this school offers when it comes to the medical field, as other schools do. The club president, Lilly Scruggs, gave wonderful insight into the importance of the club and what she intends to do with it.
Scruggs Stated, “I think that it is important for students who are interested in neurology or the medical sciences to join this club because the brain is incredibly significant in all specialities, and there are also not a lot of opportunities for students who are passionate about science, especially neurology, in Hanford/ our school.”
This statement is a perfect insight into why this club is important for students who want to grow in their medical interests and prepare themselves better for their future. It is also notable that Scruggs stated that neurology is especially important because there are even fewer opportunities to study that topic, as its specialisation makes it harder for students to find opportunities to learn about it.
When it comes to the specifics of what this club offers, Scruggs states, “I feel that with this neuroscience knowledge, members can improve their own lifestyles, and help bring awareness to neurodegenerative conditions like Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s, etc.” This list of things, along with many other things this club talks about, is something Scruggs wants to expand the members’ knowledge and thinking on.
She wants to clear the air and remove any misinformation when it comes to these conditions, along with any other things that are more complex that should be known when it comes to this field of study. The focus of this club is to straighten out the thinking of the members in a positive, fun, and effective way, help them grow in their learning, and give them the advantage of expanding their knowledge on an important topic such as this.
Club’s vice president Kurita Suggs said “We have opportunities to intern in hospitals while still being in high school, pushing our students to strive for better, while also building their resumes.”
This highlights what it has to offer for students who need an extra push to help them stand out by using their experiences to help them get into schools, get internships, and well-paying jobs.
Suggs also made a statement that shows the club’s dedication to encourage the club members to grow, stating, “To my knowledge, there is power, so if we can educate our club, we give them power.”
