One of the biggest complaints from students is not having enough time for schoolwork and not being able to catch up with all their responsibilities. Some kids rely on the weekend to catch up with all their schoolwork because they might have extracurricular activities or work on weekdays.
A way to fix that is if schools turned to having a 4-day school week.
This idea would not only help students but teachers as well. The weekend can feel short for both students and teachers alike.
For some students taking multiple AP and honors classes, they are at a higher risk for burnout and falling behind because of these burnouts. With another day on the weekend, they will be able to rest and recuperate without stressing out even further about things they might potentially be missing.
While some people might worry that students might not take advantage if given the opportunity, this could give them more motivation to do something beneficial. Some students are struggling with keeping up, and this could help many of them.
Just like students, teachers also might stress at times with deadlines.
It is no secret that teachers have many responsibilities and students to look after. Teachers typically have six teaching periods and only one planning period when on a seven-period schedule; however, this doesn’t include the time out of those hours that they work.
Because of their job, they have many students that they are responsible for teaching and grading every single day. With many assignments as well, it can take a long time and even cut into their personal time. This lack of time also requires some teachers to go out of their way and disturb their personal time just to be able to finish work.
Some teachers will often show up early if they need time to plan things for their day, and others even go out of their way to invite struggling students to their classes if they need any assistance. For the teachers who do offer that option, it could be harder to balance the work they got there early to do, and help the students who showed up to receive help.
Besides doing the work during the school days, they also do many things outside of school. They often take some of their free time after school and even do some work on the weekend. If teachers had another full day, they would have an easier time grading things and even be able to spend more time on themselves.
Having four days instead of five can have amazing benefits to both students and teachers because of the fact that both need more time to do their work more efficiently. This would also be a good mental boost and reduce stress for both parties involved.
