Covid-19 has stopped students from being together in school so the yearbook is being omnific on what they’re doing this year. Usually, you would see students taking pictures of students in school for important events. But since not many of us are at school right now, they’re using surveys to get pictures from students.
Nancy Cardoso is the Sierra Pacific yearbook advisor and this is what she had to say: “We are reaching out to as many students as we could to include everyone and to make sure it is memorable for every student.” As Cardoso says, “This year’s yearbook will be much different but I think it will be a great reflection of the year and the good that also came out of it.“
If you could check your Google Classroom period 8, the yearbook has been doing a lot of surveys on many different subjects. For example, the yearbook has surveyed an ugly Christmas sweater contest. You send a picture of yourself in your sweater and submit the form and they might put you in the yearbook. But also, if you’re lucky enough, you can win prizes just by participating.
Yearbooks want to make things fun as possible, even if things this year are different from a few years ago. They’ve done fun games like a scavenger hunt, baking competition, making fun memes on what it’s like being in quarantine, etc. During these hard times, it’s hard to be excited about anything- especially school. And the yearbook knows that, so they’re doing everything they can so students this year can feel more comfortable this school year.
Sierra Pacific student Haleigh Fagundes, who is on the yearbook staff, said there’s plenty of reasons to buy the yearbook this year. “I would get why people might not want to get a yearbook this year,” Fagundes said. “There’s no sports or events in general, but this year more than ever, it was up to the students to be featured in the yearbook.” Since the first months of school, the yearbook has been making covers and themes early to make students’ yearbooks special to them. “I think if you submitted anything to our Google forms, you should get your yearbook because it’s a good way to look back on what you were like in high school.”
Let’s admit it, this year and last year is the worst year ever. But they’re making it still feel exciting, more enjoyable, something you will remember for years to come. Every student wants to look back on their yearbook from time to time to look at the good memories they had with their friends and teachers. No doubt though, this will be a year everyone will look back on. But first of all, if you are looking for a yearbook it will be in the finance office. It currently costs $75 but the price will go up to $80 on May 1. You won’t be able to get them until the end of May but last year due to covid, students didn’t get their yearbooks until the end of June. Right now things are still confusing to us but the yearbook staff is doing everything they can to make this year unforgettable for every student.
