In the movie The Tearsmith, Nica Dove and Rigel Wilde are portrayed by Caterina Ferioli and Simone Baldasseroni. Caterina Ferioli, a talented TV actress and model, was born on December 21, 2003, in Bologna, Italy. She delivered a compelling performance as Nica, effectively conveying the character’s emotions and story from the beginning. Nica, a young girl who tragically lost her parents in a car accident when she was just 8 years old and then had to endure hardships at the orphanage she called “Grave.”The orphanage’s strict caretaker made Nica’s life difficult.
On the other hand, Simone Baldasseroni, born on December 19, 1998, in Italy, is a talented TV actor and singer. He portrayed Rigel Wilde, a young boy who fell deeply in love with Nica, protecting her in the orphanage. Rigel, abandoned as a baby, was named by the caretaker and because of this the caretaker made Rigel to believe he was the “Tearsmith,” a monster which led to emotional trauma. Both actors brought so much depth and emotion to their roles which made the audience feel their characters struggles and relationships.
Now let’s get into what happens in the movie. Nica survives a tragic accident at the age of just 8 years old where her parents sadly passed away. She lands into a creepy orphanage “Grave” with the scary Miss Margaret. She loses her butterfly necklace to Rigel who was manipulated by Miss margaret. The orphanage is like an emotional graveyard where kids bury their feelings. Miss Margaret is a twisted figure who uses the kids’ fears as punishment, especially targeting Nica and Rigel’s connection.
Nica and Rigel have a complex relationship with Rigel keeping his emotions hidden from Nica. Just as Nica is about to be adopted, Rigels actions lead to them being adopted together. Their bond starts to become strong causing some tension going from a sibling bond to a relationship. As feelings for each other evolve. Conflicts arise, especially when a school dance comes up. There’s another guy that is interested in Nica however she has pushed him away and he drugged her at the school dance but Rigel saved her which led to him being in a coma. Nica goes through a journey to reunite with rigel and seek justice against miss margaret is filled with emotions.
The courtroom battles, Rigels coma and the eventual heartwarming reunion all contribute to a captivating storyline. The moment when Nica shades the news of maragets fate with Rigel’s awakening as well is truly touching. The story also includes a beautiful scene with Nica and Rigel with their daughter showing that they had a happy ending it was truly heartwarming to see. The Tearsmith profound meaning as the person who can evoke tears or joy through their actions adds a deeper layer to the narrative making it an emotional movie.
The movie has a rating of 3.9 while the book has a rating of 4.3. I feel like that ratings are slightly off due to the book being longer and obviously covers more than an hour of the movie. Many people want a tearsmith 2 because they want to see more of the movie. They felt that it was rushed. I feel the same way just because it felt like everything was happening the same day and it obviously wasn’t and there were some stops but not many. The movie also ended with Nica and Rigel having a daughter and that could be another reason why people want a second movie because they want to see them grow as a family.
However some people didn’t like the book or the movie and that is reasonable not everyone is going to like the movie or the book. They bel;ived that the movie was missing somewhat important parts and others didn’t like how it went from a sibling-ish bond to a relationship it made them disgusted which again is reasonable. Others thought it was a rewrite of twilight which doesn’t quite make sense. It does have some parts that could remind you of twilight but it’s still different so I don’t quite believe that but again everyone has their own opinion.
Overall I believe that the Tearmiths is a good movie if you’re into romance movies, I do feel like this movie is made for teen age girls because it’s pretty cheesy and I do feel like the teen age girls were the ones loving this movie the most. I do feel like you should read the book first then watch the movie because the movie does miss some parts and the book overall gives you a better understanding of the movie.
