Sierra Pacific High School has many inviting clubs for students to join, all being fun and inclusive. Specifically, Sierra Pacific’s Chess Club is a club fit for all sorts of different people. It is an extracurricular activity club that meets every Friday at lunch to play chess, as well as compete and train with each other within the club. This club is run by Mr. Dull, an english teacher here at Sierra Pacific, who holds the club in his classroom. Chess Club is fun and welcoming to anyone, any skill level and any experience level.
Chess Club is an inviting club, attracting all sorts of different people. Many students who have joined this club enjoy all the lively activities it has to offer.
Sierra Pacific student Emmanuael Arias Hernandez describes his experience with this club this year so far. “Even though I’m not a regular attending member, I still feel so welcome and included in this club.”
Being a freshman this year, Hernandez was excited to be more involved and join more clubs. He has always wanted to get better at chess, and this is a great way to do so. He described this club as “interesting, there is always a little something going on.”
As it seems, other schools don’t have as many, or the same, opportunities and clubs for students. Student Olivia Swasey from Lemoore High School writes that she wishes there was a club like our chess club, something where she could find people to be around and hang out with. “None of the clubs here at Lemoore have stood out to me,” she said. “They all feel more enclosed and I feel more nervous to join.”
Fun clubs like Sierra Pacific’s Chess Club really let students let loose and have a fun time to just hang out with mutuals. Oliva states that she wishes there was a place like our Chess Club that she could go to have fun at lunch. “Even though I’m not very experienced at all with chess, I would still look forward to attending a club as inclusive and inviting as this.”
There are many different and interesting clubs here at Sierra Pacific High School, but one stands out from the rest. Chess Club has been a challenging and creative outlet for all sorts of different students. Just because this club revolves around chess, that doesn’t mean that it’s all it’s there for. Students in Sierra Pacific’s Chess Club have thoroughly enjoyed these experiences they have gotten from it and friends that they’ve found with it. Even other students from other schools are eager to join similar clubs. The activities that Chess Club has are challenging and entertaining for all sorts of students. It doesn’t matter your skill level or experience level, Chess Club will welcome everyone. Sierra Pacific’s Chess Club is a well rounded inclusive club fit for anyone who is willing to join.
