Sierra Pacific High School now has a new club students can join. It’s the Film Club. The club consists of around 57 students. The club usually meets up once every week on Tuesday during Lunch at room 213. Darian Colemen is the president of the Film club. The co-presidents of the club are Lupe Duarte and Ernesto Diaz, the treasurer Jaelynn Behrens, secretary Marianna Lababit, and the music representative Aiden Acosta.
The club is separated between departments that provide different information and activities on different aspects of film. Originally it was intended to be two separate clubs, the emergence of the club had resulted in two different ideas having to combine concepts. One intended on the creation of film, others intended on teaching film which lead to confusion of how the film club looks like, departments, and activities.
Acosta said plenty goes into being the club’s music representative.
“it is my job to show the importances and details of the way music can affect different types of films,” Acosta said.
At the moment the club is working on different departments which are, cinematography, music, and screenwriting. He then tells me, “The idea of having a film club was very intriguing and knowing the people who started the club I knew it was in good hands.”
The motivation to create the film club was the old series “Marble Hornets”. Internet horror from those times like Jeff the Killer, Slenderman, Eyeless Jack, Sally Williams, Smile Dog and Candle Cove were all things he used to be afraid of but fascinated by them. Darian says, “I started this club to bring those old legends back into the light showcasing these Creepypastas in a different yet nostalgic aspect of the old 2010 horror revamped.”
The club originally was created with the intention of getting people who are interested in taking part in a series instead of going around and asking people. Along with that, the club was going to be very collaborative where everyone can make decisions, not only the representatives and president.
The film that’s being planned to be made is title “Slenderman.” It is all inspired by Marble Hornets and the theme of “Curiosity killed the cat”. Making the audience see how far someone will go to be there for a friend, going up against something greater than you, as well the obsession of trying to understand something that isn’t meant to be understood. This will be a lost footage type of film series. This will all be recorded on a Camcorder from the protagonist’s view of developing into a rabbit hole searching for an end with no bottom.
