Musical legend and artistic genius Kanye “Ye” West has partnered with rapper, singer, and songwriter Ty Dolla $ign to create a new collab album titled “Vultures”. Together the duo has created a new name combining their stage names to go by the duo name “¥$”. Together Ye and Ty have announced they are releasing 3 different albums, Vultures 1, 2, and 3. They already released “Vultures 1” on February 10, 2024, and it has music fans torn and questioning Kanye West’s ability to make music, nonetheless, here are my two cents.
This is Kanye’s 11th studio album and 3rd collaborative album, he released his debut album “The College Dropout” in 2004 and since then has been known as one of the best rappers of our generation as well as one of the best producers and overall artists of all time. With that being said, over time Kanye hasn’t been able to just drop amazing album after amazing album, and his last few albums have been noticing decreasing in value and good material. Vultures was an album that Kanye and Ty released after the cancellation of Kanye back in 2022-2023 for his antisemitic remarks and very controversial acts, and most people see this album as a way for Ye to make a comeback.
Vultures 1 has 16 tracks, 55 minutes and 33 seconds long, and has many features such as India Love, North West, Freddie Gibbs, Mike Tyson, and more. This album wasn’t by any means great, especially in the context of it being a Kanye album but it also wasn’t horrible and doesn’t deserve all of the hate it gets considering it has great songs, features, and production throughout.
It wouldn’t be strange to go out on a limb and say that at least over half of the album is full of songs that are likable and could be kept on rap fans’ rotations. We all knew this album wouldn’t be great but we didn’t expect it to be as good as it was either, this album was decent, maybe a 7/10 in terms of a number rating and it does have some replay value in it with songs like BURN, HOODRAT, PAPERWORK, CARNIVAL, VULTURES and more. BURN is probably the best song off Vultures, it captures some beautiful production and great instrumentals and singing and helps balance out the rest of the tracklist with hard rap songs like PAPERWORK and CARNIVAL that have great beats as well as catchy features.
Vultures is worth a listen, especially considering how dry the rap game has been this year so far and the poor quality we’ve heard in some rap album releases, Vultures isn’t by any means the rap album of the year or even a top 5 Kanye album either, but it wasn’t what most think, just give it a listen and develop your thoughts.
