“Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” was an amazing movie and a perfect way to start this year’s new movie releases. It had several good elements that immediately captivated any person who watched it. This action/adventure movie had many great aspects such as the CGI, actors, and in general the whole film was a great experience. It is definitely worth watching, especially if you enjoy monster movies.
It was released officially in theaters on March 27, 2024 and was directed by Adam Wingard. The movie’s box office total was totaled at $519.4 million and the reviews for the movie were at an average of four and a half stars out of five which would be considered pretty high for a movie in these times.
The movie starts off with Kong in Hollow Earth, the hollowed out space inside the Earth where monsters live, running from predators using traps to get them away. He ends up ripping one in half in front of the rest to assert his dominance and then proceeds to try and eat the ones that he killed. While trying to eat the predators, he gets a sharp pain in his tooth and decides that he needs to go back to the surface. Scientists who are working on finding the source of strange spikes on their monitors are struggling to figure it out while Jia, a girl who has a connection to Kong, is also receiving these waves.
Then, the movie pans to Godzilla fighting Scylla in Rome, where he ends up killing Scylla and proceeding to take a nap in the Colosseum. When Kong’s tooth is fixed by the people and he returns to Hollow Earth with other people who are trying to find the source of the waves, Godzilla is woken by something that sends him straight to a monster with a lot of power and radiation. He defeats the monster and begins to absorb all of the radiation to gain power for whatever startled him. While in Hollow Earth, the people find an indigenous tribe that is the same that Jia was from, the Iwi tribe.
They discover that the signals were from the Iwi and that they were asking for help against Skar King, something from the same species as Kong who was trying to get to the surface after being sealed by Godzilla. Despite Kong and Godzilla’s history, they come together to protect the people from the village and stop Skar King from getting to the surface and destroying everything.
The characters in the movie all had good qualities that people could find either relatable, humorous, or even sad. Dr. Ilene Andrews, the main character of the movie who is also played by Rebecca Hall, had taken in Gia after her village was destroyed. She had to start acting the motherly role and she did it perfectly. The movie didn’t immediately make her a good mother like some others would, you can see the progress in Gia and her relationship as the movie progressed.
The daughter, Gia, was also a great character who played a big role in the movie. Despite her not being able to talk, there was so much emotion that could be felt by the audience. Kaylee Hottle did a great job playing the role of Gia in this movie.
Also, even though Kong was unable to communicate and was just seen as another monster helping people, he still showed great characteristics. He was alone in Hollow Earth for a long time trying to find more of his kind and despite being a gorilla there was still emotion that could be taken from the interactions with Kong.
“Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” also had amazing CGI in the movie. Almost everything in this movie was CGI including the fights, the monsters and special effects. The total cost by the end of the movie turned out to be $200 million dollars. They did a great job in the film with the effects as there was not a single point in the movie where the CGI looked bad or fake. They made the monsters look so realistic to the point that any person watching could be amazed by it. The scenery in the movie was also always beautiful with bright colors that mixed well together. It was the type of movie where you just can’t take your eyes off of it because you get worried that you’ll miss something big.
The interactions in the movies were also quite interesting to see, it was enjoyable because they weren’t like most other movies. A lot of movies now decide to make all of the characters buddies immediately despite them having harsh histories with one another. But this one was different, Godzilla and Kong had a hard time getting along but were still told to work together to take down Skar King. It was interesting because Godzilla was still fighting against Kong despite everything and it was able to show how even people or things with the same goal don’t always get along. It isn’t realistic to make a giant gorilla and giant lizard best friends straight away and it was fascinating to see the producers show that.
“Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” was a great movie and is perfect for people who enjoy monster films with a great storyline. It’s definitely not made for everyone out there but most movie enjoyers will enjoy the watch despite not being into that style of movie. The characters, CGI and story all had amazing and unique qualities that allowed the viewer to relate to at least one of them. This movie did not disappoint any expectations at all and is highly recommended to watch.
